Welcome! My name is David Tomen, and I am the author of NootropicsExpert.com, my books Head First 2nd Edition – The Complete Guide to Healing & Optimizing Your Brain with Nootropic Supplements and (FREE!) Secrets of the Optimized Brain, and my Nootropics Expert YouTube channel.
I started Nootropics Expert® in January 2016. You can learn more about my story and why I started Nootropics Expert over on my About Page.
You can quickly see the nootropic supplements that I personally use every day on this page: What I Take
And if you’re in a hurry, go to this page to Buy Nootropics.

How Nootropics Can Help You
You can end your search now. Because here on Nootropics Expert you’ll find the help you have been searching for. No matter the brain health problem that is making your life miserable.
Here you’ll find information on this List of Nootropics which has dozens and dozens of links to nootropic supplement reviews that I’ve written, and update as soon as new science becomes available. In a language that is easy to understand.
You’ll learn where each supplement comes from, how it works, the benefits you can expect, how much you should use and how often, possible side effects, and how to select from dozens of options – which one to buy.
NOTE: Every single word on Nootropics Expert is written by me. It’s not an AI or a contract copywriter.
You will also discover that everything I write about a supplement is supported by peer-reviewed clinical studies. You will not find links to other websites or blogs.
Instead, you will find dozens of clickable links in each supplement review and article to supporting and relevant clinical studies.
So you have the option of reading the same research I found and used to write my reviews and articles.
My hope is that if you’re overwhelmed by the fragmented information for nootropics spread across several websites, you can end your search on what has become the best nootropics website.
Quickly find out how one nootropic may interact with another. Which ones are safe. And which nootropic supplements have side effects. I will cover all that here.
Use my Nootropics Guide to get more familiar with the top nootropics and different types of cognitive enhancers and what they do. Soon you’ll be able to safely build your own nootropic stack.
I’m happy you’re here. Because you should be able to find everything you need to know about nootropics on Nootropics Expert. No need to go anywhere else.
Armed with this knowledge you can choose the best nootropics for you, and finally start experiencing the benefits you’re working to achieve.
Where to Buy Nootropics
Once you’ve decided which nootropic supplements you’d like to try, how do you know which is the best supplement to buy?
I’ve done the homework for you and put together a list of nootropic brands and supplements. Most of which I personally use and highly recommend.
You’ll find the highest quality, purest nootropic supplements on this page.
The Definitive Guide to Nootropics
A nootropic is a substance that enhances cognition and memory and facilitates learning.
Neuro-hacking and the research behind brain modulation, nootropics, and biohacking in general is a constantly evolving and improving science.
We cover all that in The Definitive Guide to Nootropics.
The Big List of Nootropics
Nootropics cover a broad category of compounds with cognitive boosting properties.
They have minimal side-effects and are appropriate for long-term use.
The Big List is a quick reference guide for nootropics. Learn what it’s for, how it’s used, side effects, interactions and dosing suggestions.
The Best Nootropics
Achieving brain optimization comes with a lot of trial and error. Experimenting to see what works best for you. But spend enough time in the nootropics community, and you begin to see patterns develop.
After you try the latest edition to the racetam-family of nootropics. Most biohackers settle into the nootropic that works best for each category of; cognition & focus, memory, energy & motivation, anxiety & depression, and brain repair & maintenance.

Hello David, Is Gastrodia elata good for brain repair and would it help with MS ? If you like this Chinese herb, does it have other benefits and do i need to cycle it and what dose would you suggest . I am considering a 98% organic source . Thank you for your great information and knowledge , you are great.

Tom, I don’t know nor have I done any research on Gastrodia elata.
But to rebuild myelin which is what you need for MS is: Vitamin B12 (methylcobalamin and NOT cyanocobalamin), Sulbutiamine, SAM-e, Vitamin B9 (methylfolate and NOT folic acid), Vitamin B8, Vitamin B6, and CoQ10 with nicotinamide for white matter lesions.

hi David,
Thank you so much for your amazing work! I love reading it all and watching the videos…so interesting!!
Just wondering… could you please tell me… what is the best way to increase your Dopamine levels?
David Tomen
February 11, 2022
Rose, the safest and easiest way to increase dopamine levels is with L-Tyrosine.

Thanks so much for your reply. I actually have already purchased this – from “Source Naturals” as N-Acetyl L-Tyrosine – – but I read the ingredients and it says it is mixed in with – Folate (as Folic Acid) – …. I read somewhere they did a study and when you have Folic Acid your body stops being able to absorb Folate and that can actually be not good at all. Should I get a different brand? one that hasn’t got Folic Acid in it, as I want to be as natural as possible and now am scared to take Folic Acid because it seems it could rob my body of being able to process Folate (which comes from green leafy vegetables) – and I actually make an effort to eat a lot of those.

Rose, there is likely very little folic acid in your NALT supplement. I suggest finishing that supplement and choose better the next time.

I was wondering if you knew how the drug Gabapentin works on the brain. My daughter took this drug over a year ago and she is still struggling with severe hand and foot swelling. Seems like it could be either low or high gaba. This symptom came on after two weeks on the drug and she immediately discontinued it. But the symptoms are still here. So many doctors have given up on her.

Gina, Gabapentin has nothing to do with GABA, it’s receptors, transporters, or anything related to GABA despite its name.
Gabapentin has an inhibitory effect on voltage-gated calcium channels containing the alpha2delta-1 subunit (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/16376147/). Calcium channels are ion channels that tunnel through cell membrane walls.
It’s not wonder the doctors have given up because they do not understand how the drugs they prescribe work. Unfortunately, there is no known method of healing messed up calcium channels.
The only thing I can suggest is searching for a “naturopathic doctor near me” and variations on that theme and see if someone like that can help you.

Hi, I have just found MB. I have bought some MB powder METHYLENE BLUE – (A.R Grade). Is this ok for humans to take please?
The recipe I have looked up to make a solutions, is:
Procedure: Dissolve 0.1g methylene blue in 100 ml distilled water (0.1% MB stock solution) • Mix 10 ml of the MB stock solution with 90 ml of the 0.1M glycine buffer. Is this correct please.
Thank you Petra

Petra, A.R. Grade stands for “analytical grade” which is suitable for laboratory use. The level of impurities is unknown unless you ask the company for a Certificate of Analysis for that specific batch.
Using this type of grading system you are looking for “FCC Grade” which are products that meet the requirements of the current Food Chemical Codex.

Hi David. Huge thanks for providing these amazing resources on Nootropics. I wanted to ask you; what, if possible, would a more cost effective ADD/ADHD stack look like? Despite wanting to follow your regiment to a “T”, the cost starts to stack up…so I’m curious if there is a stack that would serve as the essentials go-to/a college student budget stack? The hope is to stack something cost effectively with Vyvanse while mitigating the negatives of long term use.

Izzy, good question and I really need to update my ADD/ADHD page. A basic ADHD stack looks like this:
Mind Lab Pro – 2 capsules in the morning
L-Tyrosine 500 mg twice per day
CDP-Choline 300 mg twice per day
ALCAR 500 mg twice per day
DHA (Omega-3) 1,000 mg once per day in the morning
magnesium (chelated) 400 mg before bed
Multivitamin (like this one: https://bit.ly/347dm5M)
You can add another dose of L-Tyrosine and ALCAR around 4 pm tp prevent a stimulant crash. These are the minimum to make this work. The fundamentals for ADD/ADHD.
