Hey David, love your videos. But I couldn’t find anything on EGCG. I just bought some 5-HTP 250mg with 150mg EGCG. I read that EGCG helps deliver 5-HTP to the brain without wasting 5-HTP outside the brain, that’s how I understood it. But there are people saying EGCG will harm my liver…
It would be interesting to hear your opinion to this substance, since it also has other benefits.
Greeting from Germany, keep up that good work.

Adrian, I’ve done the research for L-Theanine and now it affects the human brain but not EGCG. So I’ll need to take your word for it about the effects of EGCG on 5-HTP.

But don’t count on the effects of 5-HTP lasting any longer than 3 – 4 weeks. You may find that it no longer provides any benefit after several weeks of use. Please see my 5-HTP review on why it is not the best choice for raising serotonin.

      Thanks for the reply, David!
I have read your 5-HTP review and bought taurine and NALT to increase Dopamine.
What is the science behind taking one of the sulfur-containing amino acids (in my case I chose taurine) with l-tyrosine? You mentioned this in your 5-HTP review. I understand that you need to rise your Dopamin levels to counteract the inhabitant effect 5-htp has on dopamine, but I haven’t found any reference to taurine having something to do with dopamine yet, is it a tyrosine hydroxylase precursor? I trust you, but please explain the role of taurine in this context.
      You are a great person!
      Greetings, Adrian

Adrian, Taurine (https://nootropicsexpert.com/taurine/) affects dopamine transporter levels, dopamine uptake and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) expression. Check that link I included and scroll down to the Research section “Taurine may help ADHD”.

        Hey David,
can you please suggest how much NALT I should be taking for 500mg 5-HTP? Thank you

        April 20, 2021

Adrian, I do not recommend using 500 mg 5-HTP per dose for anything. Because assuming you are using it to treat depression. It will stop working after few weeks. There isn’t a reliable way to maintain serotonin/dopamine balance when using high doses of 5-HTP.

Hi David, love your content! I myself suffer from an ADHD Brain that affects me in my everyday life. And have since I was a child. My question to you is, if you could recommend your top 3 Nootropics to take for ADHD, what would they be? Some things i’ve taken/currently take..

L Tyrosine
Fish Oil
Multivitamin/Mineral
Lions Mane
L Theanine

Anything i’m missing that would be super beneficial in repairing/producing Dopamine?

    David Tomen
    April 2, 2021

Jeff, naming my “Top 3” is difficult because just the following three do not address what we need to do to treat ADHD naturally.

    1. L-Tyrosine
    2. Alpha GPC or CDP-Choline
    3. Acetyl L-Carnitine (ALCAR)

But that is missing the other cofactors required to make dopamine and serotonin such as the B-Vitamins. DHA to keep brain cell membranes healthy and fluid. And NAC which supports the health of dopamine neurons.

Hi.

Found very little info about glucuronolactone. Do you know anything about it, any new research etc?

    David Tomen
    March 30, 2021

Only that Glucuronolactone is an additive used in energy drinks and seems to be popular in the athletic world. And it naturally occurs in your body as a structural component of connective tissues.

Hi David I have a question about preparing a personalized stack. If I wanted to add a combination of nootropics to water bottles for work 2 weeks at a time, do most nootropics still work the same after sitting in water for up to 2 weeks or longer? Trying to figure out a way to prep a stack but did not want to loose potency. Any feedback on this is much appreciated.

    David Tomen
    March 29, 2021

Natasha, good question but I simply don’t know the answer. I don’t think anyone has ever tried testing this method before. So, you’ll be the first. Let us know what happens!

Thank you David for your response. Instead of placing in water I am going to use silicon ice cube trays, place nootropic blend in each cube, and add in a mix of prepared unflavored grass fed gelatin flavored with electrolyte drink mix. Then I will stir ingredients together in each cube. My goal is to mass produce enough servings to only have to prepare once or twice a month. I do not think all my nootropics will fit into one capsule even if using a capsule machine. Appreciate any thoughts you have on this idea. I’m happy to share results after using and if I have continued cognitive benefits of nootropics.

        March 30, 2021

Natasha, you may have something no one has done before. The only problem I foresee are the fat-soluble ingredients in your nootropic supplement stack which will not dissolve nor easily be suspended in water.

Hello, David!
I’ve just got performance lab multi men and it says that it contains only 600mcg of vitamin C, instead of 60mg. Actually it’s disappointing, why did they change it so much?

    David Tomen
    March 28, 2021

Ilya, mine says 60 mg Vitamin C and their website does too. If they’ve changed it I’m unaware of it. And will ask as long as you are sure.

      Ilya
      March 30, 2021

Yeah, they’ve confirmed it was a mistake, wrong label. By the way european version doesn’t contain vanadium, if anyone is interested. Not a big problem, but for information.

Why is Unifram/Sunifram nowhere on your site?

    David Tomen
    March 23, 2021

Chris, because Sunifiram is an experimental drug with very few animal tests. And no one has been able to figure out how it works or its mechanism of action.

Sunifiram or Unifiram have not undergone toxicology testing, have not been tested in humans, and it’s not approved for use in any country on the planet.

That’s why it’s not on Nootropics Expert.

I do not know if piracetam increases monoamine oxidase after using piracetam I use l tyrosine does not work then i use turmeric and zinc i use l tyrosine works again

    David Tomen
    March 13, 2021

Le, I’m not sure what you’re talking about. But I do know that Piracetam is unlikely to work unless you stack it with a choline supplement like Alpha GPC or CDP-Choline.
