Veronica, there are no substitutes for any of the racetams. They were developed as prescription drugs and are sold as such in countries around the world. The are only available in a few countries such as the USA as “research compounds” and not as dietary supplements.

How many Brazil nuts should I have daily one or two for good selenium, I read it’s very important for brain health however I don’t want to overdose on it so, is it better than supplement pills? is 2 per day safe, it says 55mcg is the daily recommended amount but I wonder if 200-300mcg daily is really better for optimal health. What do you think?

Andy, two Brazil nuts will supply 100 mcg of selenium. And the maximum you want is up to 250 mcg per day. Long-term however no more than 125 mcg per day.

Do you take two Brazil nuts daily for your selenium intake? I am just wondering if it is better to take one then every second or third day take two and cycle it like that so as not to overdo it. in my country the soil is depleted of selenium so not too sure if it is in my eggs or good amounts

Andrew, great question. I rely on the Performance Lab NutriGenesis Multi for men for my daily selenium. If I was not using that Multi I would use a separate selenium supplement.
Brazil nuts are a great source of selenium. But unless you get each nut tested you never know exactly how much selenium you are getting.

I seem to have a bit of a skin rash kind of flaky where my thyroid is on my neck I’ve been having 1 brazil nut daily for over 5 weeks could this been a cause or unlikely or should I have a skip day with the nuts so take maybe 6 days a week and have a break? I prefer getting my Selenium naturally

Andrew, if the rash only started after you started eating Brazil nuts you could be reacting to the nut itself rather than its selenium content. Some people are allergic to nuts.

My 12 year old has spastic cerebral cerebrally palsy. she only takes pHospHatidycholine 2x day approx 1300 mg. Any suggestions for reducing spasticity?

Lynn, outside my area of expertise. I suggest doing a Google search for the keyword phrase “best supplements for cerebral palsy” and see what turns up.
You will get some ‘authority’ pages and you should get some personal reports of others who have achieved success with certain supplements.
It is better to get this type of information from someone who has experience in this area than someone like I in my opinion. Good luck in your search. I think you’ll be amazed at what you find. And do not be afraid to experiment.

Hello, David:
You seem to have a great deal of knowledge in regard to DHEA which prompted me to write this note.
I know you’re a strong advocate for DHEA, but I wondered whether it’s worth even taking – from a man’s perspective – since it seems that it creates a very high rise of estrogen in the (male) body . . . at least, that’s what I’ve been reading in the following link (under Testing Hormones, 4th paragraph, also a very well written article which elaborates on DHEA):
I’m a 64-year-old (white) male, and I realize the importance of DHEA, especially in view that it rapidly declines after the age of 40. However, I certainly don’t want a rise in estrogen by taking such.
Would you mind if I just got some quick thoughts from you in this regard? I just need to be absolutely certain whether I’m doing the right thing by taking DHEA it all.

Larry, excess estrogen is a problem for men and it’s not just supplementing with DHEA that can cause in increase. It’s coming at us from all sides. But I digress …
Men need adequate DHEA if you want to enjoy quality of life. But testing is critical to make sure each of your hormones is within a healthy range. Including estrogen. There are two easy ways to keep estrogen under control. You can use a supplement called DIM. Or get your doctor to prescribe 1 mg per week of Arimidex.
My urologist prescribes the latter for me and my estrogen and estradiol levels are well within a safe range even while supplementing with 50 mg per day DHEA and weekly testosterone injections.

Im taking NAC on empty stomach for my anxiety and energy levels and I LOVE it, but it gives me terrible stomach pain, what can I do? Will I loose the effects if I take it with a meal?

Coco, the only ‘side effect’ I am aware of are headaches when you do not have enough acetylcholine for Aniracetam to work with.
