Welcome! My name is David Tomen, and I am the author of NootropicsExpert.com, my books Head First 2nd Edition – The Complete Guide to Healing & Optimizing Your Brain with Nootropic Supplements and (FREE!) Secrets of the Optimized Brain, and my Nootropics Expert YouTube channel.
I started Nootropics Expert® in January 2016. You can learn more about my story and why I started Nootropics Expert over on my About Page.
You can quickly see the nootropic supplements that I personally use every day on this page: What I Take
And if you’re in a hurry, go to this page to Buy Nootropics.
I also do Personal Consultations if you could use some help choosing the best nootropic supplements for you. You’ll find my calendar here: Nootropics Expert Consultations
How Nootropics Can Help You
You can end your search now. Because here on Nootropics Expert you’ll find the help you have been searching for. No matter the brain health problem that is making your life miserable.
Here you’ll find information on this List of Nootropics which has dozens and dozens of links to nootropic supplement reviews that I’ve written, and update as soon as new science becomes available. In a language that is easy to understand.
You’ll learn where each supplement comes from, how it works, the benefits you can expect, how much you should use and how often, possible side effects, and how to select from dozens of options – which one to buy.
NOTE: Every single word on Nootropics Expert is written by me. It’s not an AI or a contract copywriter.
You will also discover that everything I write about a supplement is supported by peer-reviewed clinical studies. You will not find links to other websites or blogs.
Instead, you will find dozens of clickable links in each supplement review and article to supporting and relevant clinical studies.
So you have the option of reading the same research I found and used to write my reviews and articles.
My hope is that if you’re overwhelmed by the fragmented information for nootropics spread across several websites, you can end your search on what has become the best nootropics website.
Quickly find out how one nootropic may interact with another. Which ones are safe. And which nootropic supplements have side effects. I will cover all that here.
Use my Nootropics Guide to get more familiar with the top nootropics and different types of cognitive enhancers and what they do. Soon you’ll be able to safely build your own nootropic stack.
I’m happy you’re here. Because you should be able to find everything you need to know about nootropics on Nootropics Expert. No need to go anywhere else.
Armed with this knowledge you can choose the best nootropics for you, and finally start experiencing the benefits you’re working to achieve.

Hi, is there a way to increase iq ? thanks

Vangelis, IQ is likely at least in part genetic and certainly the environment you were born into as well as nutrition during development. My research also shows the Iodine and Creatine can increase IQ.

Hello Mr. Tomen,
I was just watching your video on Rhodiola Rosea, and was wondering is there a brand that you recommend?
Thanks,
David

80 mg soft capsules Lavandula angustifolia Mill., aetheroleum (Lavender oil, Silexan®)
For adults
Herbal medicinal product for the treatment of temporary anxious moods.
What do you think about Silexan? It has many clinical randomized placebo controlled studies and meta-analyses. Also its mechanism of action is very interesting.
I am currently taking Levaxan, I bought it as an over-the-counter medicine, it is NOT a dietary supplement!
This means it undergoes independent, third-party government testing to ensure it matches the label.
Silexan research, clinical trials, studies, scientific articles, study

Daniel, I just put Lavender on my list and my SEO guy ran the search stuff I needed to write a review. Thanks for asking.

It is also worth considering the side effects when exceeding dosages, cytotoxicity of essential oils.

Daniel I’m glad you brought that up because and especially with people new to supplements. They have the wrong idea that just because it’s natural it’s harmless. And they don’t realize how potent these natural compounds can be.

David,
I’m a chemical engineering student with ADHD-I (ADD), and I’m interested in deepening my understanding of the science behind nootropics, particularly their effects on the brain and neurotransmitter systems. To make more informed, evidence-based decisions, I would appreciate any recommendations for scientific resources (scientific books) or studies that you find particularly reliable. I’m looking for sources that take a rational, scientific approach (for ADHD and also cognitive, emotional, etc. enhancement in general with clear mechanisms preferably).

Jens, I link to 10 clinical studies in my article on Best Nootropics for ADHD here: https://nootropicsexpert.com/best-nootropics-for-adhd-add/. I personally have been using the supplements in the grey text box near the top of that article for the last 17 years to support Ritalin use. 10s of thousands are also using that stack for ADD and ADHD with or without stimulants.

Hello, I’m wondering where can i buy Picamilon? I have the capability of intravenous injection of the drug so if it’s sold in ampules, that would be preferable.

Josh, did you take the time to read my Picamilon review? Because I have two different online stores that sell Picamilon in that article.

Hi David,
After decades of trying natural remedies and protocols for chronic depression/PMDD, I finally am on a stimulant med. (dextroamphetamine), which helps. Part of me still doesn’t like the idea of taking this kind of medication and I have always been very health conscious, so just wondering if you know of what herbs/supplements can be taken alongside something like this to offset the negative effects it might have on my brain long term? Also, can one take L-theanine or any calming neurotransmitters alongside it for the anxiety it sometimes doesn’t help? Thank you!
David Tomen

Anina, dextroamphetamine is an amphetamine which is hard on dopamine receptors. The best supplement I’ve found to restore dysfunctional dopamine receptors is 500 mg NAC 3-times per day. And you may also find it helpful to provide the amphetamine with 500 mg L-Tyrosine twice per day to give your brain the dopamine it needs. And to support the use of dextroamphetamine. 100 or 150 mg L-Theanine 3-times per day can also help take the edge off of any anxiety caused by using that drug.

Hi David,
I’m a big fan of your platform and have been experimenting with nootropics for about a year to manage my ADHD. They’ve been incredibly helpful! I’m preparing for the MCAT and would love your insight on optimizing my current stack.
I feel overstimulated with Rhodiola Rosea in the afternoon, but still want to take it for its cognitive endurance effects. Maybe this can be rearranged?
Do you have recommendations on timing/dosing for these, and any full-stack critiques? I aim to use my morning stack for cognitive performance, noon for fatigue, and night for memory consolidation. The morning doses was the only thing i was planning on taking during the morning of my test.

Hi David
My wife is suffering from postnatal depression and my kid is already 4 years old and she has since lost her libido . May I know what kind of nootropics is suitable for her to take to regain her libido. Is maca ok for her to take?
David Tomen
August 29, 2024
Wong, Maca is typically safe for most people. But a lot depends on your wife’s age and her hormone levels. Often times the only way to correct what you describe is with hormone replacement therapy.
