neurogum reviewWhat is Neuro Gum?

Neuro Gum is an innovative nootropic concept developed in 2015 by Kent Yoshimura and Ryan Chen. The two college buddies were looking for the right product with a better delivery system for the nootropics they were using.

Kent and Ryan came up with a nootropic gum and nootropic mint to support cognitive enhancement and boost brain performance. Unlike pills, supplements and energy drinks, they wanted a nootropic product that you could take with you. And use it anytime and anywhere when you need to stay focused.

Often referred to as brain-boosting gum, Neuro Gum will deliver a quick boost in mental alertness and energy levels without relying on double shot coffee or traditional supplements.

Customers report the gum is effective for work, studying, or workouts. And its unique delivery system and formula tastes good. Making it a popular choice if you are looking for a convenient and effective cognitive enhancement.

How Does Neuro Gum Work?

Neuro Gum enhances cognitive function by combining powerful nootropic ingredients known to support focus enhancement, mental clarity, and overall alertness.

Chewing the gum allows for rapid delivery and absorption of active nootropic ingredients. For example, Neuro Energy & Focus Gum provides a clean energy boost that lasts around 2 – 3 hours.

Customers say they appreciate the energy boost from a nutritional supplement without jitters or side effects. You get the mental stimulation and improved concentration with the added bonus of fresh breath.

What are the Ingredients in Neuro Gum?

Neuro Gum as a health brand offers four nootropic formulations designed to meet different cognitive and wellness needs. The following are the ingredients in each Neuro Gum formulation.

Neuro Energy and Focus Mints and Gum – Caffeine boost

These focus mints and gum combine caffeine with L-Theanine and B Vitamins. Neuro Gum offers a steady, smooth energy boost without feeling jittery or crashing. This nootropic gum is available in peppermint, spearmint, and cinnamon flavors.

neuro gum review redditCaffeine 80 mg

Caffeine – an adenosine antagonist which keeps you awake. Caffeine increases the density of GABA receptors, potentiates dopamine, and causes some serotonin receptors to be more responsive.[i] It increases cortisol. And acts as a diuretic which results in the B-Vitamins being excreted in urine.

L-Theanine 120 mg

L-Theanine – is found in foods like green tea and helps reduce the cortisol released by Caffeine.[ii] It increases dopamine, serotonin and GABA levels in your brain. L-Theanine boosts brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), and alpha and theta brain waves for an alert relaxation and creativity.[iii]

Vitamin B6

Vitamin B6 – is a cofactor in the synthesis of dopamine, epinephrine, GABA, norepinephrine, and serotonin.[iv] It helps control homocysteine and reduces inflammation. And this ingredient helps replace the Vitamin B6 lost in urine from caffeine use.

Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 – is a cofactor in the synthesis of dopamine, GABA, norepinephrine, and serotonin. Affecting alertness, cognition, memory and mood. Vitamin B12 is a co-factor in the one-carbon cycle that is required for the synthesis of DNA, RNA, and the myelin sheath protecting axons. It helps control homocysteine. And including this ingredient helps replace the B12 lost in urine from caffeine use.[v]

Neuro Gum is a convenient alternative to sugary energy drinks or coffee. The energy boost lasts around 2 – 3 hours, making it ideal for a mid-afternoon pick-me-up. Many consider it a perfect solution for days when they need a little extra energy and focus.

Performance Lab NutriGenesis Caffeine 2If you’re looking for a L-Theanine + Caffeine stack in capsules that covers all the bases when it comes to caffeine use support, I highly recommend Performance Lab® Caffeine 2. It contains Natural Caffeine (from Coffea Robusta seeds) 50 mg, L-Theanine 100 mg, L-Tyrosine 250 mg, with a balanced NutriGenesis® B-Complex. For alert clean energy without the jitters.

Neuro Sleep & Recharge Mints

Neuro Sleep & Recharge Mints™ are formulated to support restful sleep, relaxation, and overnight recovery. The ingredients in these mints include:

Melatonin 1 mg

Melatonin is naturally produced in your pineal gland in response to darkness with peak levels in your brain occurring from 2 – 4 AM.[vi] This 1 mg melatonin dose may be too much for some people

Proprietary Herbal Blend 25 mg

This Proprietary Herbal Blend includes Chamomile extract, Lemon Balm extract, Passionflower extract, and Elderberry extract.

This herbal blend affects GABA levels and use in your brain.[vii] And acts as an antioxidant and free radical scavenger for healthy brain cell repair and maintenance.[viii]

Neuro Sleep & Recharge Mints taken 30 minutes before bed should help you get to sleep and stay asleep. And wake up refreshed the next day.

If you find you feel groggy when waking up that means the 1 mg Melatonin dose is too much for you. And you may want to find a sleep supplement that does not contain synthetic melatonin.

I recommend Performance Lab® Sleep which contains Montmorency Tart Cherry (CherryPURE®) 500 mg, L-Tryptophan 200 mg, Lemon Balm Extract 200 mg, and Magnesium (as Magnesium BiGlycinate, Taurate and NutriGenesis®) 100 mg in 2 NutriCaps® Pullulan Capsules.

Neuro Memory & Focus Gum

Neuro Memory & Focus Gum™ is formulated to support your memory and mood without the use of caffeine.

This memory and focus blend ingredients include:

Ginseng (Cereboost™) 50 mg

GinsengCereboost™ is a patented form of American Ginseng. Ginseng acts as a serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) which acts as an antidepressant in some people.[ix]

The unique ginsenosides in Ginseng act like a steroid which provides its energy boost.[x] Ginseng can boost mental alertness, thinking should feel quicker and clearer. Recall and long-term memory should improve.[xi]

L-Theanine 60 mg

L-Theanine – helps reduce cortisol, increases dopamine, serotonin and GABA levels in your brain. L-Theanine boosts BDNF, and alpha and theta brain waves for an alert relaxation and creativity.

Vitamin B6

Vitamin B6 – is a cofactor in the synthesis of dopamine, epinephrine, GABA, norepinephrine, and serotonin. It helps control homocysteine and reduces inflammation.

And helps control homocysteine.

Neuro Memory & Focus Gum users say the product helps them feel more productive throughout their busy day.

Neuro Calm & Clarity Mints – with L-Theanine

neurogum side effectsNeuro Calm & Clarity Mints™ are used to promote calmness, reduce stress, and support overall mental clarity throughout the day. The ingredients in these mints include:

L-Theanine 130 mg

L-Theanine – helps reduce cortisol, increases dopamine, serotonin and GABA levels in your brain. L-Theanine boosts brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), and alpha and theta brain waves for an alert relaxation and creativity.

Vitamin D3 13 mcg

Vitamin D3 – is needed for serotonin synthesis, release, and function. Regulating executive function, sensory gating, and social behavior – is involved in the synthesis of GABA, glutamate and glutamine, and dopamine in your brain.[xii]

GABA 130 mg

GABA – has an inhibitory effect on overly stimulated neurons. It helps relieve anxiety, stress, and boost the production of alpha brain waves.[xiii] When GABA is optimized in your brain, you’ll feel focused, relaxed and stress-free.

Neuro Calm & Clarity Mints are formulated to help promote relaxation and relieve temporary stress. The product is made with natural ingredients and artificial sweeteners.

Artificial Sweeteners

Neuro Gum uses artificial sweeteners like Sucralose and Stevia to provide a sugar-free alternative to traditional energy drinks.

Sucralose and stevia are popular choices for those looking to reduce their sugar intake without sacrificing taste.

Sucralose is approximately 600 times sweeter than sugar, allowing Neuro Gum to deliver a satisfying sweetness without the added calories.[xiv]

While some customers have expressed concerns about the use of artificial sweeteners, the company claims that they are safe and effective in providing a quick energy boost.[xv]

By opting for Sucralose and Stevia, Neuro Gum ensures that you get the energy you need without the sugar crash associated with traditional energy drinks.

Does Neuro Gum reduce anxiety?

Neuro Gum Focus & Clarity Mints is formulated with ingredients like L-Theanine and GABA, known for promoting relaxation and reducing stress without causing drowsiness. L-Theanine works synergistically with caffeine to provide a calm alertness, which can help reduce anxiety levels for some individuals.

While Neuro Gum is not specifically marketed as an anxiety treatment, its calming effects may help alleviate temporary stress and promote mental clarity throughout busy days.

However, individual experiences may vary, and those with chronic anxiety may want to see my article on Best Nootropics for Anxiety if you are looking to treat it naturally.

Neuro Gum Recommended Dosage

Neuro Gum’s dosage recommendations typically advise users to consume one up to a maximum of 10 pieces daily, depending on your tolerance and cognitive needs.

Regular daily intake is considered safe for consumption by most people. The following dosage recommendations are suggested by the manufacturer for maximum effectiveness.

Neuro Energy and Focus Mints and Gum studies show that up to 400mg of caffeine is safe for most healthy adults, which equals about 10 pieces of Neuro Gum or Mints a day.[xvi] They recommend taking 1-2 pieces at a time as needed.

Neuro Sleep & Recharge Mints – Neuro recommends 1-2 mints 30 minutes to an hour before bedtime.

Neuro Memory & Focus Gum – Neuro recommends chew one piece, 4 times a day to support memory and focus.

Neuro Calm & Clarity Mints– 1-2 mints as needed.

neurogum nootropic energy gum reviewsConsumer feedback consistently praises its ease of use, quick boost in cognitive performance, and great taste, contributing significantly to overall customer satisfaction.

Some customers have reported receiving the wrong product, leading to frustration and complaints about the company’s response.

Most reviews indicate a high level of product effectiveness, with users often recommending Neuro Gum to friends and colleagues. They say the initial taste is refreshing but the flavor of the gum tends to fade quickly after chewing.

Customers enjoy the minty flavor of the gum. For the Neuro Energy and Focus mints and gum, it provides a steady, smooth energy boost lasting around 2 – 3 hours.

Many consider it a perfect solution for days when they need a little extra energy and focus. The mint flavor is great and helps them stay focused and on task.

Neuro Gum Pro & Cons

Pros

  • initially affordable via subscription, offering a mix of beneficial ingredients.
  • Made in the USA with ingredients sourced from the USA, Canada and China in a GMP certified facility.
  • Vegan, non-GMO, and contains no added sugar
  • One dose is only one piece of gum or mint which make it easy to take
  • pricing is affordable for most people if you want to try it
  • The gum is sugar-free and convenient for on-the-go energy needs
  • a great alternative to energy drinks

Cons

  • L-Theanine is still sourced in China. And better option would be Suntheanine® which is produced in Japan
  • many say the taste of the gum doesn’t last long
  • Dosage of some ingredients is too small to provide a beneficial nootropic benefit
  • Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) is synthetic and not the natural form pyridoxal 5′-phosphate (P-5-P) that you would get in a BioActive Vitamin b tablet like the Click for Performance Lab®B-Complex
  • The company provides no proof that this supplement has undergone 3rd-party testing to verify quality and purity.
  • The melatonin dose serving size in Neuro Sleep & Recharge Mints™ at one milligram is considered high for most people. Your brain uses only 0.5 – 0.8 mg of melatonin during the night.[xvii] Excess melatonin could leave you feeling hungover or groggy the next morning.
  • The 130 mg synthetic GABA in Neuro Calm & Clarity Mints is not likely to be effective for most people because synthetic GABA has difficulty crossing the blood-brain barrier. You need up to 800 mg synthetic GABA for it to be effective in taming stress.

What is Neuro Gum Missing?

Mind Lab Pro vs Neuro GumDespite its popularity, Neuro Gum does have ingredient limitations. When compared to other nootropics and cognitive enhancers, it lacks some advanced ingredients like the rest of the B-vitamins, L-Tyrosine, Rhodiola Rosea, or herbal extracts commonly found in more comprehensive pre-made nootropic supplements like Mind Lab Pro®.

These product gaps may prompt users with higher cognitive enhancement demands to explore alternative products.

But even experienced Neurohackers find keeping a pack of gum or mints in their pocket or purse is convenient for a quick energy boost. Or a quick anxiolytic in stressful situations.

It’s also missing 3rd-party testing documents backing the safety and efficacy of their nootropic ingredients.

Neuro Gum Side Effects

The ingredients in Neuro Gum formulations taste great and are generally considered safe and non-toxic for most healthy adults.

But there is the potential for side effects if you are sensitive to caffeine.

Although rare, some may experience headaches, sense nervousness, or sleep disturbances if consumption exceeds recommended dosages.

Adverse reactions are minimal but depend greatly on individual user tolerance levels and overall sensitivity.

Is Neuro Gum Right for You?

Determining the suitability of Neuro Gum depends on your personal cognitive enhancement goals and if you like chewing gum or sucking on mints.

Its target audience includes busy professionals, students, athletes, or anyone seeking a convenient and quick mental boost.

Consider your daily routine, tolerance to caffeine, and the outcome you’re looking for in a nootropic stack before deciding if Neuro Gum aligns with your life and lifestyle.

How Much Does Neuro Mints & Gum Cost?

Neuro Gum is competitively priced, providing good value for money compared to when you shop for similar nootropic products.

Pricing ranges based on package sizes, subscription options, and purchase frequency.

Neuro Gum Comparison to Other Products

When compared to energy drinks and coffee, Neuro Gum stands out for its unique combination of ingredients that provide a quick energy rise without the jitters or crash.

Unlike energy drinks, Neuro Gum is sugar-free and does not contain any artificial flavors or colors, making it a healthier option.

Neuro Gum also offers a more sustained energy increase that can last for several hours, unlike the short-lived spike often experienced with coffee.

Its portability and ease of use make it a great alternative for those who need a quick pick-me-up on the go. Whether you’re at work, studying, or working out, Neuro Gum provides a convenient and effective solution to stay focused and energized.

Neuro Gum Company and Website

Neuro Gum was founded by two passionate athletes, Kent Yoshimura and Ryan Chen, who were on a quest to improve their mental performance and energy levels.

Their commitment to providing high-quality, safe, and effective products is evident in the formulation of Neuro Gum.

The company’s website is user-friendly and easy to navigate, offering clear and concise descriptions of their products and their benefits.

However, some customers have reported issues with slow delivery and customer service, which the company is actively working to address.  You’re likely better off ordering their products from Amazon for speedier delivery.

Despite these challenges, Neuro Gum has received positive feedback from many customers who appreciate the product’s effectiveness and convenience.

The founders’ dedication to enhancing cognitive performance shines through in every aspect of the brand, making Neuro Gum a trusted choice for those seeking a quick and reliable increase in energy.

What about microplastics? I can’t find the entire list of ingredients anywhere on their website. A recent study found that the most popular gums in the US release “four types of synthetic polymers: polyolefins, polyterephthalates (or polyethylene terephthalate), polyacrylamides and polystyrenes”. I don’t want to add a link for fear of spam filters but feel free to search for “gum microplastics” on your favorite search engine, and you will find it.

Peter, they do not use the usual manufacturers for the gum base. I came across some what they use as a gum base somewhere but don’t recall where I saw it. They used to use a small mom and pop manufacturer in Canada for the gum base. Not sure if they still do.
